An Indigenous Peoples Day Gathering by We Think Dreams

Tea brings us together. Art gives us something to see. Story gives us something to understand. Join We Think Dreams for an Indigenous Peoples Day gathering centered on Native art, traditional tea, storytelling, cultural knowledge, and connection. As a member of the Suquamish Tribe and an Indigenous art curator, Denise Rubeck created this gathering as an opportunity to center Native voices, contemporary Native creativity, and the stories and relationships behind the work. Guests will have an opportunity to experience a showcase of contemporary Native art and handcrafted works, enjoy traditional tea from Raven & Hummingbird Tea Co., and gather for conversation, storytelling, and cultural knowledge sharing. History Matters in This Space For generations, the second Monday in October was recognized as Columbus Day, a day that often centered a version of history that left Native peoples and our experiences out of the story. Indigenous Peoples Day offers an opportunity to broaden that story—to recognize the Native peoples, Nations, cultures, histories, and communities that have always been here and continue to shape our communities today. This gathering is not about erasing history. It is about making room for more of the history, more of the voices, and more of the stories. Tea, Art & Story In many Native cultures, art is more than something to look at. It can be a way of carrying knowledge, remembering place, honoring family and community, and telling stories across generations. The art showcase will feature works by contemporary Native artists and makers, including sculptures, original artwork, carvings, and other handcrafted works. Guests will also have an opportunity to experience traditional tea from Raven & Hummingbird Tea Co., an Indigenous-owned tea company. Tea gives us a reason to slow down, gather, and share space. Throughout the afternoon, we will create room for conversation, connection, and storytelling alongside the art.
