FALL RESIDENCY SHOWCASE 2022

Desiree Thomas is an oil painter who uses playful imagery, delicate brush strokes and color to invite viewers into her whimsical yet esoteric view of the world.

During this residency, she has chronicled fragmented moments of time through relics of the past. These moments resonate with her because they are familiar and tap into a sense of simplicity, serenity and stillness. Inspired by her relationship with food, she was able to pull from her childhood and the meals she often shared with her grandparents living in the south. In doing so, she pays homage and celebrates the food adorned in space in a compelling way and to make the usual unusual and worthy of notice.These moments resonate with her because they are familiar and provide the challenge of portraying the mundane which is a departure from any of her previous works.
