Elliana Esquivel – Artist Statement

FALL RESIDENCY SHOWCASE 2023
Elliana Esquivel is a self-taught, multidisciplinary artist whose minimalistic work aims to illustrate the psychological facets of the human experience.
During her residency, she has focused on the art of adaptation, utilizing the time and space allotted to her to contend with the undulatory state of both art and survival. Upon discovering the appropriation of her body of illustrative work, Elliana has used this residency to reroute her energy to the 3-dimensional world of sculpture, wherein she honors the act of processing, the dangers of nonobservance, and the uncomfortable yet necessary reality of changing one’s plans.
“Much acknowledgment goes to my fellow residence, Ju-Ian and Justin Ellis. Witnessing your minds and processes that stand so different from one another, but especially from my own, has been an endless source of growth and motivation.
Many thanks to Goodyear Arts for providing me a place of exploration and the unbridled encouragement to do so.
And of course, thank you to Chris Nichol for every 14-hour step of the way. (Let’s sleep for a week).”
