SPRING RESIDENCY SHOWCASE 2023

Maryssa Pickett is an illustrator and multidisciplinary artist whose work invites the viewer into a world that is both amusing and introspective. With a BFA in Illustration from Savannah College of Art & Design, Maryssa’s work is grounded in keen observations of everyday life and interactions with others. Their paintings incorporate exaggerated and playful depictions of the world around them, which are imbued with a deeper sense of meaning and reflection.

In this residency, Maryssa has been able to delve deeper into their personal practice, exploring sketchbooks and monoprinting to create works that are raw and authentic, free from the constraints of overthinking and overplanning. By embracing a more vulnerable approach, Maryssa hopes to create a connection with the  audience and offer relatable insights into the human experience.
