Wavelengths

Wavelengths is the only experimental film series in the Carolinas. We show classic experimental films on 16mm celluloid that have never been digitized. These same programs have been shown at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Tate Modern in London. We’re proud to showcase this hyper-rare and world-class material in Charlotte — and for free. The series was awarded “Best New Arts Series” by Queen City Nerve and featured on NPR and Charlotte Magazine. In its first year, the series has attracted standing-room-only audiences and our partner screening at the Independent Picture House (IPH) sold out in less than two hours.

For its second season, Wavelengths plans to kick off with a new print of Jack Smith’s legendary Flaming Creatures (1963), a film that spawned books and documentaries but has been out of circulation for over 60 years. There will also be influential films by iconic filmmakers Robert Greer, Nathaniel Dorsey, and Jonas Mekas, as well as Jacques Tati’s Playtime (1967) in a new restoration at the IPH. The full program for the second season can be accessed here
